McLean, Va., May 6, 2014 – Haystax Technology has helped more than a dozen states and urban areas prepare for their annual Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA) reports, which are due to the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in December each year. Haystax supports these jurisdictions to evaluate emergency impacts and explain what tangible resources are needed to respond to disasters, where for example, they may need to process a large numbers of fatalities or ensure safe drinking water. Haystax expertise with THIRAs is a natural complement to its threat monitoring capabilities. THIRA is a requirement for entities such as the State Administration Agencies and Urban Area Security Initiatives (UASIs) that receive FEMA preparedness grants under the Homeland Security Grant Program. THIRA jurisdictions, which include state and major urban areas, are required to provide details around desired outcomes, capabilities and resource needs related to natural, technological, and human caused threats and hazards to their region. “Our community of clients sees value in Haystax as a leader in risk analysis methodologies. We have the depth of analytic and practical experience required to develop comprehensive THIRA reports through an efficient and proven process,” said Haystax Technology CEO William Van Vleet III. “We are able to leverage risk information and analytics to quantify and streamline data collection far beyond what anyone in the competitive landscape can do at the moment. We employ a mix of quantitative data and local expertise that together generates valuable planning tools.” Because of Haystax’s broad expertise in threat and risk analysis, urban areas such as Anaheim, Boston, Houston, Riverside, San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Los Angeles, Providence, Philadelphia and Sacramento have relied on the company to assist with THIRA preparation. The Haystax team also has supported the preparation of THIRAs for the states of New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. “The Haystax team provided technical support based on past experience and knowledge,” said Brad Hadley, sergeant and UASI Grant Coordinator for the Homeland Security Division of the Santa Ana Police Department. “Our Haystax analyst also was able to share information from other internal sources, which greatly assisted in producing a quality report for our urban area.”
